This position will be based in Hobart and will also provide some relief work in the North and North/West of Tasmania.Reporting to our Manager Towage, the Towage Master is in command of the tug and crew. This role assists with Towage operations and maintenance of the organisation's fleet of vessels and floating plant. Your strong communication skills, ability to coordinate and supervise the work of your team and be responsible for the planning, scheduling, and prioritisation of the teams' outputs, will set you up for success in this role.Key responsibilities include:Take command of the tug and manage the crew.Manning vessels and operating all plant and equipment within the manufacturers' survey authority and TasPorts safe working parameters and relevant instructions.Ensuring a safe working environment is achieved within the business operations and participating in all TasPorts HSE systems and initiatives, including risk assessments and HSE reporting.In liaison with the Manager Fleet, maintain company vessels by ensuring routine maintenance, dockings, scheduled overhauls and modifications are carried out in line with issued policy and instruction.Manage and coordinate the crew as required for operations and liaising with TasPorts VTS.Accounting for crew productivity against agreed operational and maintenance programs.Maintain crew and tug logs and other records as required to account for vessel and crew activities and as per the vessel and company SMS.Ensure compliance with all relative legislative requirements as well as a high standard of housekeeping is maintained throughout the vessel.Who are we looking for to join our team?To be successful you will need:Demonstrated ability to manage a vessel and its crew with proven experience working in an effective team environment.Proven experience in ship handling.Proven high level interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.Experience in an industrial environment with knowledge of OHS and environmental risks and hazards and a demonstrated commitment to safe working procedures.Sound experience in administrative processes and procedures including good computer skills and the ability to utilise Microsoft Office software.Essential Qualifications:A minimum Master less than 45 metres Certificate of Competency, Master Class 4 (without restriction) or higher classification.A minimum Marine Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency.A current AMSA medical clearance.Possession of, or ability to obtain and retain, a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC).AMSA Certificate of Safety (STCW95) (desirable).More informationTasPorts offer a supportive and flexible work environment, professional development opportunities and a range of attractive employee benefits.
