We have a fantastic opportunity to join the Stockland Group Legal team to work across an interesting and diverse scope of work. As a Legal Counsel supporting our Construction team, you will collaborate with stakeholders across a broad spectrum of areas within the Stockland business.
This is a permanent full-time role based in either Sydney or Brisbane.
About the role
As part of a dedicated team of experienced lawyers, you will be responsible for assisting the lawyers within the team and contributing to Group Financial performance by ensuring effective management of legal expenditure and providing specialist legal advice and drafting legal documentation.
* Reviewing contract departures from contractors and consultants from various disciplines such as construction, engineering and design services for development projects
* Proactively driving contract negotiations with contractors and consultants to assist Project and Development Managers in meeting Stockland’s governance standards
* Supporting Project and Development Managers on developing mitigation strategies for contractual terms outside Stockland’s risk profile
* Drafting, reviewing and/or finalising construction and other procurement contracts including consultancy and service agreements for major projects
* Providing contractual supporting during the construction phase of projects including providing support in any dispute resolution process with external stakeholders
* Undertaking due diligence of construction and development contracts in the acquisition of assets and capital partnering transactions
* Providing assistance to other members of Group Legal
About you
* Appropriate tertiary qualifications
* Hold valid practice certificate permitting practice in New South Wales or Queensland.
* 5+ years PQE
* Sound technical understanding of construction law (front or back end), Australian Standards Contracts or bespoke contracts and major government or private infrastructure contracting demonstrated through previous experience in-house or in a quality law firm
* You are commercially minded, and solutions driven
* Strong written and verbal communication skills and this includes good negotiation skills
* Ability to establish creditability and build rapport quickly
* Self-motivated with an ability to work well as a team member
* Attention to detail and accuracy
* Ability to be able to prioritise tasks and manage expectations
* High levels of integrity
