In this role you will:
1. Contribute to economic insights by conducting economics-focused research and analyses for the Essential Services Commission, Victoria's energy industry regulator.
2. Utilise your data and analytical skills to explore a range of topics and support the commission's role in assessing the competitiveness of the Victorian energy retail market and the energy rules, and to promote the long-term interests of Victorian consumers with respect to the price, quality and reliability of essential services.
3. Conduct economic analysis and synthesise complex information to help inform and support the work of the Commission, particularly in protecting vulnerable consumers.
4. Develop a deep understanding of gas and electricity markets in Victoria.
Position details
The position is responsible for:
5. Performing coding and data analyses on large complex datasets using advanced MS Excel and object-oriented programming languages (specifically, R).
6. Supporting the Energy division and the wider commission by providing ad hoc data and analysis to support regulatory decision making, reviewing/revising energy rules, and monitoring gas and electricity markets.
7. Project management, including internal stakeholder management and consultation for the Victorian Energy Market Report and market monitoring dashboard.
8. Synthesising robust and relevant economic insights to clearly communicate complex and technical subject matter to a variety of audiences, from technical specialists to non-technical stakeholders.
