Puffing Billy Railway, Australia's premier heritage steam railway, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Engineering Manager to lead their engineering maintenance operations, including the planning, design, construction, testing, maintenance, overhaul, and restoration of their rolling stock. Your New Role
As an Engineering Manager, you will be the guiding force behind the day-to-day operations and longer-term project work of their Workshops and Way and Works teams:
* Workshops: Oversee two key workshops in Belgrave and Emerald, ensuring their locomotives, carriages, and wagons are kept in pristine, safe and compliant operational condition.
* Way and Works: Lead the maintenance program of their track infrastructure and environmental management along the 24 km rail corridor.
Key responsibilities:
* Provide support, direction, and prioritisation for workshop and track teams, ensuring timely completion of work to required standards.
* Plan and direct major restoration projects ensuring timely completion as per project plans.
* Manage engineering branches and staff, leading teams in the maintenance of the railway’s assets.
* Oversee procurement and preparation of engineering specifications and contracts, ensuring safety and quality standards are met.
What you’ll need to succeed
* Tertiary qualification in Engineering (Mechanical preferred) with an engineering certification CPEng.
* Experience in heavy manufacturing/maintenance, rail, transport, or similar environments.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Demonstrated people leadership skills and experience.
