The Radio Trainee will be trained to support the maintenance, installation and development of fire program radio communications equipment in DEECA regions including fixed infrastructure, mobile and portable units across towers, antennas, offices, vehicles and fire ground equipment. Build solid capabilities and formal qualifications as a Radio Technician.
* Support the regional radio technician in delivering emergency management radio equipment that is effective and conforms to departmental standards.
* Support the ongoing installation and maintenance of radio systems and associated hardware.
* Assist the regional radio technician in maintaining trailered radio network assets
* Undertake all theoretical and practical training required to complete traineeship to a high standard.
* To practice cultural safety by creating environments, relationships and systems free from racism and discrimination so that people can feel safe, valued and able to participate.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
* Demonstrated interest and basic understanding of the theoretical concepts of radio coverage network.
* Demonstrated practical mechanical aptitude including vehicle maintenance and 12 volt circuits.
* Basic understanding of radio equipment and network systems.
* Basic understanding in the application of theoretical concepts of radio network coverage and interaction with terrain and other networks.
* Ability to work at heights following DEECA safety procedures and guidelines.
* Awareness of the importance of relevant OH&S regulations, including working at heights, radio frequency radiation plus the OH&S requirements relating to vehicles installations
