Our client a leader in the Civil Engineering and construction industry is currently looking to expand their team and are looking for an experienced Maintenance Manager qualified as a plant mechanic with at least 10 years experience with sound knowledge and understanding of earthmoving plant, heavy vehicles and associated equipment including small pieces of plant and motor vehicles.
The successful applicant will need to have :-
Certificate of proficiency as a Plant Mechanic
The Maintenance Manager will need to possess a HR license with a HC license being a distinct advantage, as would possessing forklift / crane licenses. A First Aid Certificate together with a good working knowledge of safety regulations is important. General Construction Induction Card ( White Card )
Whilst not considered critical, being a registered and licensed motor mechanic and possessing competent welding skills would be a highly regarded.
Strong planning and organisation skills, highly effective communication skills and possessing a flexible approach to daily work activities are all requirements, as are sound people and problem-solving skills.
Ideally will have experience in the Civil Construction industry

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Repairs and Maintenance
* Ensure all Company plant and equipment is serviced and maintained in accordance with the Company’s Maintenance Schedule, including the upkeep of all service records.
* Respond with urgency to all breakdowns by promptly co-ordinating rectification ensuring operational downtime of equipment is minimised.
* Ascertain whether repairs are to be either carried out in-house or sub-let, taking into consideration timeframe and the availability of labour and parts.
* Ensure that adequate levels of stock (including tyres, filter, fuel, grease and oils etc) are maintained at all times.
* In consultation with the Financial Controller, make recommendations to the General Manager & Managing Director in relation to the economic viability of Company plant and equipment and potential capital purchases.
* As required, ensure the effective procurement of parts/general items required by the workshop, taking into consideration price, quality and timeframe.
* Ensure relevant invoices are verified and forwarded to the Accounts Dept for payment.
* Ensure Construction Workers understand the correct use and daily maintenance requirements of plant and equipment.
People / Sub-Contractor Management
* Take a positive/pro-active approach to the coaching, mentoring & training of workshop personnel with a view to developing them in their positions.
* Hold regular workshop meetings, ensuring that relevant information (including WH&S matters) are communicated to workshop personnel, enabling them to effectively carry out their functions.
* Delegate tasks to workshop personnel in line with skill, knowledge, and ability and where necessary identify skill gaps and training requirements.
* On an ongoing basis, monitor the progress of sub-contractors (via the IMS Evaluation documentation) to determine suitability for future work.
* Ensure industrial harmony within the organisation is maintained at all times.
* In conjunction with the General Manager, complete KPI assessments of workshop personnel within Company specified time frame.
Safety, Quality and Environment
* Demonstrate a full understanding and working knowledge of the Company’s Safety/Environmental policies and procedures and Quality systems, ensuring all workshop personnel adhere to them at all times.
* Ensure that all Company plant/equipment is maintained in accordance with the Company/Manufacturers’ safety and quality standards.
* Complete all tasks without defects or errors ensuring the appropriate checks are in place.
* Ensure all workshop personnel are provided with and wear the appropriate safety equipment at all times.
* Ensure that all hazardous situations are minimised and reported to prevent WHS incidents.
* Ensure that workshop / stores / yard are kept in a clean, tidy and safe manner at all times.
* Ensure all relevant safety / environmental / quality documentation is completed and processed in accordance with the Company’s Integrated Management System.
Cross Functional Support and Training
* Be prepared to assist other Company Personnel as required/requested.
* As required/requested, be prepared to carry out other duties and responsibilities.
* As required, become involved in on the job training of others.
* Participate in any other relevant/appropriate training programs as requested by the Company.
* Stay informed and up to date with current technologies available in the industry.
* Be prepared to perform the duties and responsibilities of the Mechanic(s) in their absence or as workload commences.
