The Opportunity As the OHS Projects Officer, you will support Council's operational areas in meeting legislative occupational health and safety requirements. Your work will ensure the development of processes that maintain compliance with statutory regulations. Key Responsibilities: Implement OHS policies and procedures to safeguard Council staff and the wider community. Draft procedures supporting the Assets and Environment Directorate with OHS and Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations under the Heavy Vehicle National Law. Conduct site inspections, audits, and ensure corrective actions for unsafe work practices. Assist with the investigation of OHS hazards, incidents, and accidents, and support the OHS Committee. Mentor staff on OHS and CoR responsibilities, identifying training needs and delivering tailored programs. This is a full-time, limited tenure opportunity for six months and is based at the Bruce Road Depot, Kalimna West. Part-time or reduced hours may be considered for the right applicant. Minimum Requirements: Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or extensive and relevant industry experience. Understanding of OHS management systems. Demonstrated ability to interpret legislation, particularly in respect of OHS and the Heavy Vehicle National Law. Demonstrated experience in conducting OHS audits and investigations. Highly developed verbal and written communication skills. High level organisational skills and proven ability to develop or review systems. Good understanding of relevant IT applications. If successful, you'll need to undertake a police check and a pre-employment medical. You must also be legally entitled to work in Australia.
