About TIPS Initially established in 2013 in partnership with the NSW Agency for Clinical Innovation, the Tier 2 chronic pain service 'TIPS' is one of a small number of services located in regional New South Wales, established at the Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital.The TIPS service comprises a team of experienced health practitioners: a Newcastle-based Specialist Pain Medicine Physician (SPMP), and Tamworth based team including: Clinical Nurse Consultant/Operations Manager, Clinical Psychologist, Physiotherapist, Clinical Nurse Specialist, and an Administrative Officer.TIPS provides chronic pain management care to the communities of Hunter New England Northern District and offers pain neuroscience education, assessment and management in group and individual formats for patients with chronic pain, encouraging a broad holistic care approach.TIPS has strong links with the Tier 3 tertiary service, Hunter Integrated Pain Service, located at Newcastle. Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital is the main referral centre and the only Major Non-Metropolitan Referral Hospital for acute care management within the Hunter New England Local Health District (HNE LHD).Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital is a 348-bed training hospital with clinical affiliation with the University of Newcastle and University of New England.Tamworth Hospital has a 24-hour emergency department (level 5), high level surgical and medical services, including a diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterisation laboratory, intensive care, coronary care, rehabilitation services (including brain injury), diabetic centre, ENT, gastroenterology, mental health unit, renal services, paediatrics, maternity, rheumatology, oncology, radiology, pathology and an extensive range of outpatient services and clinics. The SS in Pain Management provides: Comprehensive specialist care to adult patients with chronic non-cancer pain, referred to the Tamworth Integrated Pain Service. Participates in pain education as well as multidisciplinary assessment and management in individual and group settings as part of a team. Offers liaison and consultation in the hospital setting as required, collaborating with the inpatient acute pain service, other hospital-based specialist services and primary health care as needed. Is involved in research and quality improvement activities and teaching. Works collaboratively with Hunter Integrated Pain Service with opportunities for liaison, supervision and upskilling. Mandatory requirements of this role include: Admitting, consultative, diagnostic, procedural, outpatient, telehealth and on-call services as determined and required by HNELHD. Attendance and availability during rostered work hours and whilst on-call including clinical handover, clinical supervision, teaching and for emergency and routine care as determined and required by HNELHD. Provision of education and research as determined and required by HNELHD. Minimum qualifications include: Eligible for full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency with Fellowship of Faculty of Pain Medicine, Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists, and other specialist colleges/faculties/chapters including Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine, Australasian Chapter of Addiction Medicine. Evidence of being a medical expert, demonstrated by recent and comprehensive experience in Pain Medicine. Evidence of being a scholar, maintains medical professional development and has the ability to assist other staff, including trainees in the acquisition and development of knowledge. Evidence of being a skilled communicator, including both oral and written skills, communicating with patients, students, other health professionals and the public. Evidence of being a collaborator, including the ability to network and operate within an interdisciplinary framework and to work with other stakeholders in a variety of settings. Evidence of being a manager, including ability to be flexible and cope with a changing health system, past leadership and management experience and previous safety and quality improvement activities. Evidence of being a professional, including continued professional development, peer review and other forms of clinical governance.
