Job Title: Statutory Planner Purpose:The primary purpose of this role is to process planning applications and provide exceptional customer service to the community on various planning matters.Key Responsibilities: Interpret and administer statutory responsibilities related to planning.Assess, investigate, and process complex applications for development, land use, subdivisions, planning scheme amendments, and compliance.Prepare reports and recommendations for the Development Advisory Unit (DAU), Council, and Development Assessment Panel.Support the Planning Coordinator and Manager of Planning Development Services as needed.Maintain strong customer service by taking appropriate actions in line with established policies.Represent the City at the State Administrative Tribunal, Development Assessment Panel meetings, and industry events.Provide well-rounded arguments to justify recommendations and decisions, ensuring appropriate representation in Council, the DAP, and the SAT.Make substantiated decisions within operational guidelines, standards, procedures, and relevant legislation to resolve customer issues, including exercising discretion where appropriate.Offer advice that aligns with the City's requirements and desired outcomes while supporting customers and applicants.Assist in the review, development, and maintenance of systems, policies, and procedures to ensure continuous improvement.Prepare submissions on state planning framework items.Promote, support, and adhere to a holistic Safety, Health, Environment & Quality culture and associated policies.Demonstrate behaviours that reflect the organisation's values and support cross-functional teams.Review and comply with all relevant planning legislation, regulations, and standards.Implement Quality Assurance Principles, including identifying improvements.Participate in Continuous Improvement Teams and Audit teams as required.Undertake other tasks as requested within the scope and level of the position.Essential Requirements: Tertiary qualification in Town Planning or eligibility for Full Membership with the Planning Institute of Australia.Experience interpreting mapping and architectural plans.Experience researching and investigating legislation and policy related to planning.Proficiency in Microsoft's suite of products.Knowledge of statutory town planning schemes and supporting legislation.Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.Excellent organisation and time management skills.Strong customer service skills.The ability to work independently and as part of a team.The ability to interpret complex planning frameworks, apply discretion, and provide concise advice.Desirable Requirements: Current 'C' Class Driving Licence.White Card.Experience with planning, mapping, and process-based software products.Experience developing and maintaining policies and procedures.Other Information:This position works under general supervision.May be required to act as Senior Statutory Planner as requested.Promote, support, and adhere to a holistic Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality culture and associated policies.This position does not have a delegation or purchasing authority.
