About the AgencyThe Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing (ORSR) is the lead agency for the Government's policy on sport and active recreation. ORSR is responsible for State Government policy and legislation as it relates to the sector, its key programs, sport and recreation infrastructure and funding programs. The ORSR supports sport and recreation organisations, Councils and the community through the development of policy, programs and resources, the provision of funding, recreation and sport planning, infrastructure development, elite sport pathways and programs, and the promotion of physical activity.
About the Division - ORSR Sector CapabilityThe Sector Capability division provides a strategic and integrated approach towards the development and delivery of recreation and sport initiatives to build diversity, strength, capacity and sustainability with industry clients and the community. The division also leads program development, delivery of resources, and initiatives to educate, support and enhance the efforts of sport and recreation organisations and clubs to drive participation outcomes for an Active State.

Role DetailsReporting to the Manager, Sector Policy and Support, the Senior Policy Officer is responsible for providing expert policy advice in relation to ORSR priority projects, strategic goals and objectives that relate to state and national sport and recreation, racing and boxing and martial arts sector including contributing to potential legislative reviews and changes. The Senior Policy Officer is also responsible for providing policy and portfolio advice in relation to Cabinet, Ministerial and Chief Executive briefings, reports, recommendations and correspondence. This position provides advice and support to other divisions of ORSR, liaises with and supports local state sport organisations, state recreation organisations, industry bodies, Sport Australia, local government, the racing and boxing and martial arts sectors and other relevant government and community organisations.
Special Conditions
The Incumbent will be required to participate in the department's Performance Management Program.
The Incumbent may be assigned to another position at this remuneration level or equivalent.
Some work outside of normal hours will be required.
Some interstate travel involving overnight absences will be required.
This role requires a working with children check.
