The Sovereign Hill Museums Association is a not-for-profit community-based organisation that includes: Sovereign Hill Outdoor Museum, Sovereign Hill Hotel, AURA and Narmbool, the Australian Centre for Rare Trades and Arts, and the Australian Centre for Gold Rush Collections. It cares for a nationally and internationally significant collection of over 150,000 objects and protects the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Victorian gold rush.We are an Australian tourism icon that attracts some 500,000 visitors annually. The Outdoor Museum is internationally renowned as a living museum featuring rare trades, and programs and experiences that interpret a pivotal point in Australia's history. In all, some 350 staff work to bring our gold-rush story to life. They are supported by over 250 volunteers.About the role The Hotel Manager oversees all operations of the Sovereign Hill Hotel, ensuring an exceptional guest experience for both education and leisure guests while meeting financial and operational goals and maximizing commercial returns for the organisation. This role involves managing staff and contractors, maintaining high service standards, driving occupancy and revenue growth, and furthering the hotel’s reputation as a quality accommodation offering aligned with the Sovereign Hill brand.Hours will vary according to the requirements of the business and will require some weekend work.Duties & Responsibilities Manage day-to-day operations of the Sovereign Hill Hotel. Collaborate with various teams across the business to achieve positive outcomes. Participate in projects and working groups relevant to the Sovereign Hill Hotel. Facilitate the induction, training and mentoring of new Hotel staff members and other SHMA and contractor staff who may require orientation. Establish strong relationships with local businesses, event organisers, and tourism operators. Manage variable costs effectively, ensuring that maintenance, consumables, housekeeping, and labour expenses are kept within budget. Spearhead the development of a commercial culture within the team, emphasising both operational excellence and revenue growth. Lead the team to embrace a commercially driven mindset, ensuring all staff are focused on delivering exceptional, memorable guest experiences while also encouraging guests to explore additional opportunities to enhance their stay. Qualifications & Skills Managerial experience, ideally in a hotel environment. Minimum 3 years in the accommodation sector with experience in working with online booking platforms and booking management systems. Ability to deal passionately, positively and efficiently with customers. Strong service excellence ethic and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal. Ability to implement new systems, processes and procedures. Ability to prioritize tasks coupled with strong attention to detail, accountability, solutions focus and time management skills. Experience managing various stakeholders including other internal teams, suppliers and contractors.
