To support this vision, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial & Statutory Accounting Manager to join our Financial Services team.
This pivotal role will lead the statutory accounting function, ensuring financial governance, compliance, and the delivery of high-quality reporting that supports Council's strategic objectives.
As the Financial & Statutory Accounting Manager, you will oversee the preparation of statutory financial reports, including Annual Financial Statements, and ensure compliance with Australian Accounting Standards, the NSW Local Government Code of Accounting Practice, and other regulatory requirements.
You will also manage internal controls, support external and internal audits, and contribute to Council's Long-Term Financial Plan.
This role is critical in maintaining financial stability by ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial operations, timely reporting, and adherence to best practices.
You will identify and drive opportunities for improvement within the statutory accounting function, ensuring robust internal controls and the implementation of innovative financial strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the preparation and submission of statutory financial reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legislative and regulatory standards.
* Oversee financial governance, including internal controls, audit processes, and policy development.
* Maintain the integrity of financial systems through effective ledger reconciliation, reporting, and compliance frameworks.
* Provide expert financial advice to the Executive and Council, supporting informed decision-making.
* Contribute to the development of Council's Long-Term Financial Plan and financial strategies.
* Identify opportunities for process improvement, leveraging technology to streamline operations.
* Lead, mentor, and develop the Statutory Accounting Team, fostering a culture of accountability, excellence, and continuous improvement.
Requirements:
* A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Commerce, or a related field.
* Progression in or completion of the CPA, CA, or IPA program.
* Extensive experience in statutory accounting or financial reporting roles, with a focus on compliance and governance.
* Thorough understanding of Australian Accounting Standards and the NSW Local Government Code of Accounting Practice.
* Strong skills in financial analysis, reconciliation, and the development of financial policies.
* Advanced proficiency in financial systems and software, with extensive experience using spreadsheets and reporting tools.
* Demonstrated success in leading and managing teams, driving high performance and accountability.
* Experience in audit and risk management processes, including interactions with regulatory bodies.
* Familiarity with Civica Authority local government software is highly regarded.

Remuneration:
Employment Type: Full time, Permanent 35 hours per week
Salary: In range of $125,894 to $146,310 depending on skills and experience PLUS % Superannuation PLUS vehicle allowance of $10,449.92 p.a.
