As a Laboratory Manager, you will: Lead Laboratory Operations – Oversee the safe and efficient operation of teaching and research laboratories, ensuring compliance with university policies and government regulations. Develop and Implement Safety Systems – Create and maintain risk assessments, standard operating procedures, and safe work practices across all teaching and research environments. Team Leadership & Development – Manage and develop a high-performing team to support teaching and research activities while providing training and guidance on policies and best practices. Strategic Planning & Budget Oversight – Plan and manage laboratory budgets, coordinate capital equipment acquisitions, and drive laboratory improvement projects. Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration – Build strong relationships with academic staff, students, and external partners to enhance research and teaching outcomes. To be successful, you’ll have: Qualifications & Experience – Postgraduate qualifications (or progress towards them) with extensive relevant experience, or significant management expertise in laboratory environments. Safety & Compliance Knowledge – Strong understanding of OH&S, biosecurity, and biosafety policies, including experience with OGTR PC2, quarantine, and DAWE compliance standards. Project Management Skills – Proven experience managing laboratory development, refurbishments, large-scale maintenance projects, and infrastructure-related equipment acquisitions. Specialist Certifications (Desirable) – Level 2 First Aid, Biosecurity Awareness accreditation, and Dangerous Goods Certification for transporting biohazardous substances. Senior-Level Laboratory Experience – Demonstrated leadership in specialist laboratory settings, including setting up and maintaining high-compliance research environments.
