We have an exciting opportunity available for a Senior Planning Engineer.
This role will see you providing specialised expertise to the Network Development & Planning team, driving the future planning of AusNet’s transmission network.
With a hybrid split (Office/WFH), this role is based in Southbank, Melbourne and is part of the Transmission - Network Development & Planning team within the Transmission line of business.
This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:
1. Undertake comprehensive network planning to assess network capabilities (long & short-term), identifying emerging issues and opportunities, identifying areas of the network where limitations are existing or expected to emerge in the future, developing network as well as non-network solutions and contingency plans.
2. Undertake or manage power system studies to identify network risks, assess opportunities and support market modelling assessment of the impact of transmission network constraints.
3. Support the maintenance of the Transmission Asset Renewal Plan.
4. Undertake regulatory investment tests (RIT-T) and prepare business cases and board papers to economically justify investment in the transmission network and initiate major station renewal projects.
5. Prepare planning reports and provide support to the Regulatory team to deliver a successful Transmission Revenue Reset (TRR) outcome.
6. Engage in joint planning with AEMO, VicGrid, Distribution Businesses, and other market participants to deliver efficient outcomes for transmission network users in Victoria.
7. Support updates to relevant Asset Management Strategy documents and processes.
8. Support other parts of the business, including Asset Management, to entrench sound investment decisions in the business.
You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:
1. Demonstrated experience in Network Planning or Power System Operation.
2. Proficiency in using electricity network analysis tools or relevant software (such as PSS/E) and interpreting results.
3. Strong understanding of the Victorian Transmission Network and Assets.
4. Understanding and knowledge of contemporary electricity network planning, asset management practices, and overarching markets.
5. Demonstrated experience in the management of several projects simultaneously from conception to implementation and realization of program objectives.
6. Sound knowledge of NER, the energy markets, and relevant laws, regulations, rules, licenses, and agreements.
7. Understanding of primary plant, and network protection and control devices.
8. Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
9. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
10. An advanced level of reasoning skills and engineering judgement.
