The Job The Workplace Health and Safety Officer position is to support Management and Employees with implementation, review and assessment of comprehensive workplace health and safety plans and procedures. They will identify hazards and assess risks to health and safety and implement appropriate safety controls and ensure compliance with WHS regulations, policies and procedures. Tasks will include: Manage WHS projects to ensure legislative compliance with the OHS Act 2004, OHS Regulations 2017, Codes of Practice and industry best practice standards. Provide advice on best practice actions and activities that enable compliance with relevant regulations and Workplace Health & Safety Procedures. Lead OHS/WHS committee meetings, chairing discussions and recording minutes. Develop and maintain a schedule and workplan that supports effective WHS Compliance obligations, Government Funding Agreements, Acts & Regulations, Policies and Procedures. Maintaining the incident register including reviewing response plans, assessing and resolving incidents efficiently and effectively. Investigate and monitor injury management and rehabilitation efforts, ensuring successful return-to-work outcomes. Undertake workplace audits and inspections to meet legislative requirements and provide guidance on the implementation of improvement actions. Review and develop Emergency Response Plans and support Business Continuity Plans, ensuring improvement actions are completed. Assist to develop and maintain the WHS Risk Register in consultation with Ngwala's Management team Systematically identify organisational wide WHS training needs, as required, and educate employees with regular distribution of WHS training material and best practice information. This includes Work Safe material, safety alerts and use of on-line technologies. Participate in WHS site meetings and collaborate on management plans. Appropriately responding to medical disclosures and educating managers on processes to follow. Sound knowledge and demonstrable understanding and experience of Occupational Health Safety and Risk Management Processes. Knowledge of Victorian workers' compensation and rehabilitation legislation. Strong interpersonal skills to gain cooperation with employees about health safety and risk management processes. Highly developed and proven computer skills including a sound knowledge of Microsoft software (Word and Excel) and other programs as required. Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders of all levels Ability to preserve confidentiality in a professional and respectful manner Demonstrated capacity to work independently, generally within defined guidelines, and as a team member. Desirable - Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety (or equivalent) with experience in an WHS advisory role. Mandatory Requirements Victorian Driver's License National Police Certificate (no older than 6 months).
