About the Cathedral and Music Program Vision:St. Mary's Cathedral is the cathedral church of the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth. The Cathedral's Music Program has a rich heritage of music spanning over 150 years, enriching the liturgical and cultural life of the Cathedral and wider Perth Community. A music program that is frequently invited, performing and collaborating with other best in class music programs and institutions nationally and internationally.A music venue that is frequently sought out and booked by touring and local liturgical musicians to perform.A music program that is inclusive, nurtures and retains male and female choristers with a broad repertoire befitting their abilities.About the Position:The Principal Organist supports the Master of Music to implement a high quality Music Program at St. Mary's Cathedral by providing music of a consistently high standard. The Principal Organist is required to play the organ at rehearsals, liturgies and events held at the Cathedral and other venues. The position also supports the Master of Music to enhance the Music Program's profile by fostering relationships with key stakeholders and partner, and is further responsible for the attraction, selection, development and retention of Organists in the Cathedral Music tradition. Duties will include:Play the Cathedral organ at liturgies and events held at St Mary's Cathedral and other venues.Accompany the Cathedral Choir and assist the Master of Music in the repertoire, where required.Accompany ensemble rehearsals on the keyboard.Assist the Master of Music with administration duties.Attract, select, develop and retain organists who will contribute to the Cathedral Music tradition.Liaise with key stakeholders to develop the Cathedral into a centre of musical excellence and enhance the music programs profile.Oversee the care and maintenance of the Cathedral's organs including liaising with technicians to ensure the instruments are in optimal condition at all times.Support the Master of Music in the delivery of workshops for the wider musical community in music theory or any other areas of speciality.Uphold the ethos of the Catholic Church in accordance with Catholic social teaching.Qualifications and Experience:Post-graduate tertiary qualification in Music and Organ performance.Qualifications or experience in Pedagogy is desirable. Experience working within a Catholic liturgical setting is highly desirable.Skills, Abilities and Knowledge:Ability to play the Organ at a highly-skilled level. Strong knowledge of the Catholic Church's liturgical documents.Excellent communication skills; both written and oral.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Publisher and Sibelius Music Notation Program.Ability to organize and prioritise.
