The Opportunity At Austal Ships the Piping and Mechanical department is responsible for conducting sophisticated piping and mechanical installations of new build Naval and Army ships. This TA opportunity is to support Tradesperson’s with a wide variety of installations and commissioning activities on the following systems and installations; Main Engines and drive lines, HVAC systems, Fuel systems, Hydraulic systems, Reverse Osmosis systems, Bilge systems, Domestic systems, Anchoring and mooring systems, Deck Cranes and Davitt's, Ballast systems. For the right candidate there may also be an opportunity to progress into a Marine Fitter apprenticeship What’s involved Assist with the manufacture and installation of vessel systems and components. Including but not limited to Piping systems, HVAC Ducting and Mechanical equipment. Use of hand tools and power tools in a safe and competent manner. Adhere to Austal’s Safety and Quality standards. Prepare work areas by ensuring they are clean and tidy. Maintain housekeeping standards. Material collection and preparation. Forklift use - deliver, organise, unload, and dispatch parts around the workshops. Confined space work and Confined space watch duties Fire watch duties. You’ll need Previous experience or exposure to working within a similar environment. Knowledge of hand and power tools Effective communication skills with the ability to work cooperatively in a team environment. Certificate II Engineering would be highly desirable.
