Summary: The Medical Secretary is responsible for administrative duties in a medical office, including scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, and coordinating billing processes. The job holder must possess good organization skills, strong communication skills, and solid knowledge of medical terminology, coding, and billing procedures. Responsibilities: Answering phone calls, scheduling patients for appointments, and greeting patients at the front desk. Collecting patient information, recording medical histories, and updating patient records using appropriate software. Organising, filing, and maintaining medical records and patient files in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Following up with patients to confirm appointments or to update patient information. Coordinating billing processes, including submitting insurance claims and processing payments. Managing office inventory and ordering supplies as needed. Monitoring and maintaining the office’s electronic health record systems. Assisting in the preparation and filing of legal documents, reports, and other correspondence. Ensuring that medical equipment and supplies are properly maintained and serviced and that the office is cleaned and organised. Collaborating with medical staff and other healthcare professionals. Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. Certificates, official training programs, or experience preferred. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Strong organisational and multi-tasking abilities. Good knowledge of medical terminology, HIPAA regulations, and medical billing and coding procedures.
