YEAR 1/2 TEACHER – Part-time (0.4 FTE), Ongoing, Commencing January 1st, 2025
St Bernard’s Primary School is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Primary school teacher to join our dedicated teaching staff for two days per week in our Year 1/2 class in 2025. This is an opportunity to join a school where the focus is on working with every student to reach their highest potential in all aspects of their development.
The successful applicant will be required to demonstrate an inquiry approach in line with the school’s play-based, inquiry-focused pedagogies, with strong emphasis also placed on the ability to explicitly teach required student learning. An understanding of, and appreciation for, the Investigations model of Inquiry will be highly desirable. Lesson planning will need to be differentiated not only for the separate year levels, but also in line with individual learning needs. A strong understanding of the SCSA Western Australian curriculum for the relevant Year 1/2 levels will need to be demonstrated.
The school has a strong focus on the effective instruction of Literacy and Numeracy and teachers work with the Literacy and Numeracy Dedicated Time models, actively collecting and using data to inform planning and instruction for all students. Our school is well resourced and seeks to effectively integrate learning technologies into all classrooms. We have a strong inquiry-focused approach from Year 1 through to Year 6 and our students are able to engage in hands-on learning in our on-site Bush School.
Selection Criteria

• A strong understanding of, and willingness to engage with, an inquiry-focused educational philosophy.
• A sound understanding of the SCSA Western Australian Curriculum and reporting requirements for Years 1 and 2.
• Demonstrate excellent classroom management and organisational skills in order to create a supportive and safe environment for all students.
• The ability to differentiate the teaching and learning program to cater for a variety of student needs.
• An ability to collect, analyse and engage with student data to inform teaching and learning, with a particular focus on English and Mathematics.
• Demonstrate initiative, flexibility, resourcefulness and a passion for education.
• The capacity and enthusiasm to build positive and constructive relationships with students, colleagues, parents and the wider community.
Qualifications Required
• Relevant 4 year tertiary qualification in Primary Education.
In addition, the following qualification/s are highly desirable but not essential:
• Accreditation to Teach Religious Education, or the ability to achieve Accreditation
• Early Childhood Education qualification.
