In Australia, we operate a select, highly skilled, internationally diverse engineering team, providing engineering and design advisory services to Australia's naval programs, and maritime autonomy system development. Our team holds expertise across naval architecture, marine engineering, systems engineering, integrated logistics support, engineering consulting and acquisition program management.
We are seeking a person with skills and experience in engineering of naval ship Mechanical Engineering and auxiliary systems, to provide technical advice on concept designs for these systems in an acquisition office.
Job Description
The position will include the following responsibilities:
* Assess and advise on key mechanical system technical risks;
* Support the review of technical deliverables from the project’s Head Contractor;
* Review calculations applying mechanical system engineering principles, techniques, procedures and criteria for naval ship designs;
* Engagement with the combat system delivery participants to address provision of combat system cooling requirements, and establishment of the associated interfaces;
* Assess and advise on suitability of system characteristics including performance, noise and vibration;
* Mentor and share experience and lessons with project team personnel to advance mechanical engineering skills and knowledge within the project’s technical team.
Qualifications
The position requires the following high-level attributes:
* Degree-qualified mechanical or marine systems engineer with strong knowledge and experience in marine mechanical systems
* Strong communication skills, including the ability to engage with senior stakeholders and decision authorities and explain complex positions and issues in a concise manner
* A demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and share experience and lessons with the project team membership to build mechanical engineering skills and abilities in the project team
* An ability to influence thinking and advocate for the Project team’s interests across multiple program stakeholders with divergent interests
* An ability to rapidly assimilate information and describe viable concepts for solutions
* A positive, solutions-orientated attitude
The position requires the following high-level knowledge and understanding:
* Strong knowledge and experience in naval ship mechanical systems
* Experience in design and specification of marine mechanical and auxiliary systems, including Heating, Air Conditioning, Ventilation (HVAC), Chilled Water (CW), and other cooling water systems
* Understanding of systems engineering process - from specification writing, requirement analysis and traceability through to system level design/interface, and requirements management.
Knowledge and understanding of the following aspects will be an advantage:
* Understanding of firefighting and other auxiliary systems
* Professional Engineering Credential (in Mechanical or Marine Engineering or other applicable discipline)
* Experience with verification, validation and set to work and commissioning activities
