We act for humanity.About the roleThe Archivist oversees the management, preservation, and accessibility of the Australian Red Cross Humanitarian Services archival collections, ensuring compliance with professional standards and ethical practices. This role supports the protection of the organisation's 110 years of heritage, including culturally significant materials, and enables access to records that inform strategic, operational, and historical needs.Day to Day you willManage the heritage archives service to ensure the effective preservation and accessibility of the heritage collection for current and future use.Provide authoritative specialist advice to senior management, the organisation as a whole and external parties.Maintain appropriate systems and documentation for collection management, including appraisal, sentencing, and archiving of both physical and born-digital materials.Provide archival reference services to internal and external stakeholders, supporting Redress Scheme inquiries, research, exhibitions, and public engagement.Recruit, manage and support a team of volunteers around Australia ensuring access to training and resources while maintaining work health and safety standards.Develop, implement and maintain archival service annual budget, grant applications, policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with organisational policies and industry standards.Promote access to the collection via digital platforms and social media, increasing visibility and engagement with Red Cross heritage.What you will bringSignificant knowledge of archival/record keeping concepts, principles and theory including digital archiving.Tertiary qualifications in archives or related field and/or equivalent experience, including digital archiving.Strong general administration and project management skills.Demonstrated experience in adhering to privacy, confidentiality, copyright, and restricted access requirements across collection activities.Proven ability to develop or introduce enhancements to practices, systems, procedures or services.Proficiency in MS Office Suite including Excel.Benefits that act for you, while you act for humanityFinancial wellbeing: In addition to your salary, you can take advantage of salary packaging that could provide you with a great way to reduce the amount of tax you pay - and get more from your salary.
