The Role We are seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join the Technical Services team at George Fisher Mine. In this position, you will work closely with the Superintendent - Geotechnical and other key stakeholders to support the Geotechnical Engineering team in facilitating a technically complex and growing mining operation. This is an exciting opportunity to work at one of Queensland's oldest and continuously operating mines, gaining exposure to diverse geotechnical experiences across sub-level and longitudinal bench stoping. Your responsibilities will cover various geotechnical activities, including core logging, mapping, mine design, stoping, backfilling, paste filling, and ensuring safety and quality standards compliance. You'll be part of a team using modern data management systems, with experienced technical leadership to guide you in growing as a well-rounded geotechnical professional. As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will be primarily responsible for the day-to-day management of the Geotechnical Engineering team, delivering strategic goals to the business, actively training and mentoring team members and promoting team culture.
Your key responsibilities include: Adhere to the Ground Control Management Plan, the Queensland Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act, and associated regulations.Overseeing the development, training, and support of the Geotechnical Engineering team. Reviewing work from the team and tracking, reporting, maintaining and ensuring compliance to the department performance metrics.Delivering on strategic business goals, including ground support trials and projects.Conduct underground inspections and geotechnical mapping.Design and reconcile large stoping excavations and mine development (both vertical and horizontal).Contribute to mine scheduling and the mining sequence. The qualified applicants will have: A degree (or equivalent) in Engineering or Geoscience focusing on Mining or Geotechnical Engineering.A minimum of 6 years' experience (or more) in underground hard rock mining.Proficiency in numerical modelling software Flac3D and Map3D.Familiarity with mine design software (e.g., Deswik Suite).Clear communication, critical thinking, and effective problem-resolution skills.Experience with supervising teams and mentoring and developing others.A high level of accuracy and time management.Experience with Geotechnical software packages (Rocscience, Leapfrog).Australian Manual Drivers' Licence or international equivalent.
