Situated approximately 70km northeast of Adelaide and serving a population of over 25,000 people, The Barossa Council is committed to providing our community, business, industry, and visitors with high quality services and facilities that contribute to a sustainable and attractive environment and lifestyle.Reporting to the Manager Financial Services, your core responsibilities will include:Leading and developing the Financial Services team, providing leadership, direction, and support as requiredOverseeing Council’s financial accounts and financial reporting functionsCoordinating the financial and accounting operations to meet statutory requirementsPreparing and delivering financial analysis, reporting, annual financial statements, and budgetsOngoing development and improvement of financial systems and their functionalityApplication, review, and continuous improvement of Council’s financial systems and processesAssisting in the preparation of year-end accounts and reconciliationsProviding superior customer service and support across the CouncilTo be successful in this role, you will need:Membership of a recognised accounting body (CPA Australia/CA ANZ/IPA) with a tertiary qualification in accounting and/or financePrevious relevant experience in a senior financial accounting role in an accrual-based accounting environmentDemonstrated experience in a supervisory role with day-to-day people leadership responsibilitySound knowledge and understanding of Australian Accounting StandardsHigh-level financial/accounting systems experience including advanced skills in ExcelStrong communication, time management and organisation skillsA positive approach to continuous improvement and shared best practiceExperience in local government finance and in using TechnologyOne’s suite of financial systems will be highly regarded.Join a progressive and flexible organisation with the opportunity to influence change and be valued for your contribution.
