The position supports UON’s transition towards a low-carbon and sustainable energy future, aligning with both environmental and financial goals. This is a pivotal role in UON’s renewable energy strategy, driving innovation and sustainability across UON's electrical network and contributing to the broader transition to clean energy in the region. Project Manage the delivery of Solar, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Stand-Alone Power Systems (SPS), microgrids, and other renewable power sources projects up to 20MW initially, before increasing scale in time. The role will oversee the planning, design, component specification, execution, and integration of renewable energy systems while ensuring adherence to safety, budget, and project timelines.To be successful in this role: Degree in Engineering (Electrical or Renewable Energy), minimum of 8+ years’ experience Experience in successfully delivering the design, component specification, installation, and operation of medium-scale solar, BESS, SPS, microgrids, and other renewable energy power sources (up to 20MW near term) Knowledge of energy storage technologies (BESS), solar generation systems, microgrids, and their integration into commercial and utility-scale networks Demonstrated experience in delivering Stand-Alone Power Systems (SPS) and microgrids, including project feasibility, system design, implementation, and integration with local or remote energy networks Understanding of the regulatory and compliance landscape for renewable energy projects, including local and national standards, permitting, and approval processes Strong project management skills, including experience with project delivery frameworks, contract management, program financial management, supply chain management, technical equipment selection, risk and opportunity management, performance reporting, budget preparation and administration Familiarity with energy markets and systems operations (AEMO, energy tariffs, wholesale markets, grid integration Proficiency in energy modelling, grid analysis, and simulation software tools related to renewable energy and storage systems Experience working with electrical transmission and distribution networks, including HV, LV systems and power system protection Strong knowledge on contract law, OHS legislation and Employment law. Key Responsibilities: Manage and oversee the execution of solar, BESS, SPS, microgrids, and other renewable power sources projects up to 20MW, ensuring alignment with financial, sustainability and renewable energy strategies Act as a key advisor to the General Manager Projects, providing expertise on technical, schedule, financial, and regulatory matters related to renewable energy projects, including solar, BESS, SPS, microgrids, and other emerging technologies Ensure all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with quality and safety standards Engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure projects meet all operational, regulatory, and environmental requirements Manage the preparation of project documentation including feasibility studies, budgets, schedules, and funding proposals Develop, implement, and review project-related policies, procedures, and standards Work with regulatory authorities, contractors, and other key stakeholders to obtain all necessary approvals and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and standards Collaborate with the operations team to integrate renewable energy systems, including solar, BESS, SPS, and microgrids, into the broader UON operations.
